NERVE TACKER AND THE CHALICE OF DEMEANOURS
CHAPTER-6
THE INSPIRATION
Harry wanted to solve this case by all his heart but Peter was in opposition to his thinking. Still they left London at midnight and it would take at least a day for them to reach Mumbai.
It was the same day. It was 4 o'clock in the afternoon and the sun was shining brightly. In an old factory, under a green cloth and at a dirty place, Ramesh was lying there with his face covered and he was fully tied up with a rope. His mouth was covered with tape. As the sun changed its position, its rays shined over his face. This slow and gradual change of sun was noticed by Ramesh and he opened his eyes slowly. He found his face covered and mouth taped. He was waking up for the first time after he was kidnapped. He used his presence of mind to deal with this circumstance. He decided to act that he is still asleep. He dealt with this situation with full equanimity.
Besides this, the kidnappers were sitting near Ramesh and were gossiping.
One of them said, "Have you heard about Rajeev?"
"YA, he is free now", said one of them with full satisfaction.
"But, when did that happen? It has been only six years."
"You know who he is? He is one of the cleverest persons I have ever seen."
"But he was sentenced with 7-year jail!"
"Medical-bail! He lied and he got a medical bail for 4 months."
"Wow! When we would find us behind the bars, we will also do the same."
"You will go behind the bars, not me"
"Leave this rubbish and focus on this boy. What about him (pointing to Ramesh)?"
"Like everyone, he will also beg..."
Ramesh was hearing all this quietly and after listening, he thought, "I...I won't beg for them."
"If he won't?", said one the kidnappers.
"Then, his eye!"
"What do they want to say?", Ramesh thought.
Ramesh was startled with this talk. By mistake, he moved his arm and the kidnappers noticed this. They didn't realise that Ramesh heard all their words, rather they thought that he woke up now after he fainted. They uncovered his face but his mouth was still covered with tape. They took him in the compound by trailing him all the way. It was a severe pain that Ramesh underwent. A small boy who seemed about six to seven years in age was dangled vertically on a wall with the help of ropes. He wore rags like any of the beggar. He was not moving any of his body parts and seemed dead.
Ramesh was watching all this. He was still tied with ropes and was sitting on his knees. His face had become very dirty. The kidnappers came from somewhere in the dark. They splashed some water on the face of that boy and at least he moved a little.
"HUH! He is not dead.", Ramesh thought after taking a sigh of a boon.
"You said, you won't serve for us. Right? This was your choice. Now, experience our choice. You will surely beg for us and even you will become an example for that boy so that he does not commit the same mistake.", said the kidnapper.
"Sir, may I?", said a man standing aside him with a saw in his hand.
"Why not?"
The man moved and came in front of that boy. The boy was scared and that was visible on his face. The man was moving the saw closer to his left hand. The boy was continuously weeping and was saying, "NO...Please...NO".
Eyes of that man seemed merciless. He moved that saw in a 'to and fro motion' and that too was on that boy's left hand. It seemed that it was cutting his arm. In a blink of an eye, the man cut the boy's arm and that fell on the floor with a lot of blood falling too. After this, a doctor came and he made that blood stop so that the boy does not die.
"Bring a portmanteau!", said the doctor.
A man ran and came up with a large portmanteau. He kept it under the boy's hand so that the floor is not messed up.
"Did you understand that pain? Now, will you beg or you want one of your eyes too?"
"I will", said the boy.
Ramesh was understanding all of the mess that was going on but he wasn't able to see it clearly because it was pellucid for him as the man and the doctor stood directly in front of him.
The Kidnappers again took Ramesh by trailing him all the way. They kept him in a chamber which was full of dust and dirt.
"Did you see that?", said the kidnapper while removing the tape from his mouth.
"Ya, I saw all your mess.", said Ramesh bravely.
"That wasn't a mess...", said the kidnapper at the top of his voice.
"Then, what was that? A Blunder!", Ramesh added too with the top of his voice.
"Don't shout...", said the kidnapper while he was shouting.
"You too...", said Ramesh while he tried to shout like a lion.
"Okay, Calm down. Let me get to the topic. We want you to beg for us"
"Why?"
"You want the whole story?"
"Ya, I need that."
"Then listen without interference. My friend and I had become impecunious about a month ago. We were hardly getting by on that month. So, I made my mind for this business. We kidnapped children to make them beg for us and the money they earned belonged to us."
"You want me to do the same?"
"Ya! I'm a genius. No?"
"So am I. Well, you think this business makes you a genius."
"Ya, it does. But you want me to remove your eye or will you simply beg for me."
Ramesh had no choice rather than accepting his deal because if he wouldn't do that, he would lose his eye. He showed courage and trusted Police. Accordingly, he said, "I will do that!"
"Good choice! But remember one thing. Don't try to talk like you did to me, today... Always remember one thing, I AM UNAVOIDABLE."
Ramesh had no choice. That was the reason he did this. Well, the kidnappers were going to keep him in the dirt for at least two days to make him look like a real beggar.
The other point is that Leader London was reaching Mumbai to show the kidnappers that they aren't UNAVOIDABLE.
It is only the destiny that is INEVITABLE, INESCAPABLE and UNAVOIDABLE.
