The Key to Success

Passion Is Not Always the Key to Success

Ramesh, a 12-year-old boy, is just mad behind a game which is cricket. Not only him but also more than half of India’s population watches this sport as a part of their livelihood. Like everyone, he did have a dream of becoming a cricketer.17th of April, 2019 was an exquisite day. Ramesh had joined his first-ever cricket academy in Indore as a wicketkeeper.

It was situated beside the International Cricket Stadium of Indore. Ramesh’s academy did have a gate to enter the stadium. Ramesh’s academy was generally a parking plot whenever a match was held in the stadium. The effect of dry tires and the footsteps of people affected it every time. It had stones spread all over the ground. The ground was literally a baloney.

The first day of Ramesh was fascinating. As a beginner, he was playing very well than expected. He practised a lot at home and was serious about his career. His coach also praised him. Time spent gradually and the month of July set in. With this, the monsoon had also come into effect. The academy was closed for than two months. It did not affect Ramesh’s practice. He used to work out and would wake up early in the morning to run around his society. A lot was done by his side.

When the academy restarted in October, the ground had grown some grass on it. The land became fertile and the condition was much better. Unfortunately, Ramesh had totally forgotten the basics of that game in the course of time. His game style was decreasing. Still, his coach saw, in him, a sense of devotion towards cricket.

Time went on and on and still, no improvement was there. Students teased him, said that he was a stigma in the community of wicketkeepers. He left no stones unturned. He wept and fretted sometimes too. Sometimes, you may practice a lot but you lose because of various reasons.

Later, a feeling of relaxation set in his mind when he was kept away from that game due to exams. He decided to start everything from the start. After the exams had finished, he joined the academy again in March and this time he was playing much better. Consequently, he was selected in the Under-13 team. But unfortunately, he had no work except to serve water to other players during the match.

This did not discourage him. He continued and played well whole April. Again in May, the Under-13 tournament had started. But this time he was fortunate. All the senior players in his team had turned 14 by this time. He was the only senior who was under 13. Therefore, he was made the captain of the team.

On 10th May 2020, there was one of the IPL matches in the stadium. The academy was closed for seven days. On 17th, the academy had started again and on 18th, there was the match.

Ramesh left his home happily on 17th. It did not seem that he was taking tension of being a captain. At the moment, he reached the ground, he did not see anyone. There was just a crane that was digging the pitches of the ground. The cemented pitch had been broken into segments. Ramesh just fell on his place and wept. After a lot of hard-work, he had gained some success but that was useless now. He went back home, called his coach and asked about the academy.

His teacher said that they refused to make that ground a parking plot again for the IPL match. After a lot of petitions too, the Cricket association refused. His coach, then, decided to take over that ground. Unfortunately, the Association had considered the academy illegal through various political processes and had ordered to destroy the pitches. The match was also cancelled because of this.

Ramesh really did not believe this. He got into the full swing of facing such problems. He was depressed. For the next ten days, he would just sit on the table to express his thoughts on a piece of paper. He wrote the full story of his life in different chapters. He wanted to keep them a secret.

His parents were definitely not happy with this behaviour of Ramesh. At a point, Ramesh also knew that he was not made for cricket. He was just mad at something which was not made for him. He was good in studies and that was his future. He wrote well. Whatever he had faced was written in those stories.

One day, his father stole those stories and was amazed to see his potential in writing. He made a blog and typed those stories in blogs. Ramesh didn’t know about this act. Various people around the globe read those stories. They gave people a moral. In just one month, his stories had secured more than 3 lakh views. He was becoming an internet sensation.

One day, his father told him about the blog also that not everyone is made for everything. Passion is not that thing which is responsible for one’s success. There are demeanours of talent, hard work and in some ways luck also that affects one’s future. From there on, Ramesh understood that he was behind a thing he was not made for.

Ramesh posted one story each day on his blog and earned views in lakhs.

Till today, whenever Ramesh passed from the front of that ground, he thanks it. It was that ground that helped him identify his potential. He became famous day by day and now, he was on the right path. When he was called in an interview of an esteemed newspaper after that success, he was asked about any moral he would give to the public.

He said, “Life doesn’t always roll in one way. When you cannot make things go in your favour, try to change them. Actions change things and try to identify your real potential.”
